i was watching This Old House on PBS in the middle of the night, last night...and saw a very interesting segment on SOLAR ENERGY installation. you can install a whole house system for 15,000, one that will return some electricity to the grid to provide you even additional incentive to convert. there are tax credits available from both the feds and the state as long as you have some southern roof exposure during the daylight hours. but, if you dont have enough of a taxable income to offset the credit the chances of it being cost-effective are slim to none. BUT....the same companies who are installing systems are NOW, it seems, also offering to install the systems FOR FREE, and you will still get the benefit of returning some energy to the grid, along with electrifying your home from sun power,,if you agree to allow the installation company to take the TAX CREDIT. seems like a no brainer to me. not sure how many installation companies are doing this in WV...as we are typically left out of the loop...but, maybe some people who live in the border areas of more progressive states could benefit from this info.
