im sharing this amazing post from a pal and musician, it is her feeling on the state of country music in nashville. Getting a little tired of these new traditional country comers hate-talking about Lower Broad musicians. They sound pompous and narrow. Sure, its not what it used to be and there is plenty of noise down there that I dont like. And maybe you have to look around a little to find the great, interesting and super talented performers playing the best of old country music - material that is difficult to play and sing. But they are there on Broadway, every day and night. There are many musicians that play on Broadway regularly who also tour the world with their own material (and sell their own records from the stage) or play in touring bands with folks like Jack White, Bob Dylan, The Mavericks, Jim Lauderdale and their current favorite namecheck, Sturgill Simpson. In the last 5 or 6 years, Ive had the great fortune to play with some of the greatest players in the world and it has improved me as a singer and performer in ways I never imagined. Where else can you play to a packed room of old country fans in the middle of the day, make your living with your voice and your guitar but still sleep in your own bed (if you want to)? And by the way, its FUN. Lastly, you can hate on the term Americana all you like, but if the Americana Music Association based here in Nashville (who have done a LOT to promote many country influenced artists) offered you a showcase or performance slot during their awards show, would your answer be No, leave me out. I hate the term Americana? OK, rant over. 34 Days until Christmas!
