in military strategy, one of the hardest (if not impossible) - TopicsExpress

in military strategy, one of the hardest (if not impossible) situations is a two front war. For the longest time, I have the consistent (exhausting) feeling that 21st century Modern Orthodoxy is engaged in precisely that type of struggle: working to fend off total surrender to the Haredi World (no army, no secular studies, banning women from the public sphere), and trying to put brakes on the pall-mall rush to eviscerate tradition, undermine essential elements of Halakhah in the name of outside ideologies (egalitarianism, historicist relativism, post-modern relativism and so on). Both extremes toy with עבודה זרה. The Right is marked by an עבודה זרה of Mesora; and denies the creative role that the Torah gave to each generation to engage the world. The Left narcissistically worships Man, and the Name of God and surrender to His Will is not part of its agenda (indeed, at a recent conference, one rabbi from a noted open Yeshiva recently called for Orthodox adoption of Mordechai Kaplans Philosophy-QED).
