it still seems just yesterday that i packed my bags and boarded a flight from calcutta to bangalore in 1999 ..on this day to come to a land where I did not know anyone ..to a city whose geography and language was alien to me..whose food was something my palette didnt agree with and without a family ..leaving behind at home an ailing father whom I eventually lost in 9 months after leaving home... Alone ..scared..optimistic and yet smelling the scent and freshness of promise and freedom in the air ...Bangalore came up to me as tough older brother who would bully me in the onset yet take care of me when I was down ... This city gave me friends, family who were beyond the reigns of blood ties and I can safely say that in the past 15 years, I have had a love hate relationship with this amazing city that had quite changed and defined me .. When I listen to this old song by Shaan ..somehow it defines my mindset that I had that day ..all of 18 yrs ..just out of school..and so I wanted to say Thank you for being there ..especially to those lovely people right from CMR college onwards .. who became friends and I never realised when they became a Family..thanks to my family of friends who gave me space in their hearts and their lives to welcome a lost boy from Calcutta with dreams in his eyes and yearning for a family he soon lost thereafter ..thanks for making me the son of two great cities and to be the product of being moulded by two strong cultures..I am a proud Bengali in Bangalore and a proud Bangalorean Bengali who found his home in Calcutta (always) and found his roots again in Bangalore - such a sense of Divine Irony to see the name of my present city changed to BENGALURU ..of course there will always be a part of Bengal in Bengaluru as long as this Lad from the City of Joy finds love blossom in the City of Gardens ..Ironical that the lad from Calcutta should sing dhono Dhanye Pushpe Bhora ..amaader ei Boshundhara.. in the City of Gardens..but then Ladies and Gentlemen..that is Life ...and Im Loving it and Living It !!! youtube/watch?v=veVB_IYqm-8
