many thoughts post DDO - will try to post little snippets and impressions over the days. one amazing incident is that Ronnie (ex plainsunset, ex Jhai Alai) gave out a stack of his punk/hardcore/skater zines. this amazing collection included issue #1 of BIGOT magazine (proudly anti-BigO in terms of emphasising heavily on covering local acts, including those not covered in BigO), SKATAN (skate + satan?? LOL), GAMELAN (Msian zine) and so many more. dont think anyone else really saw much interest in them, so I whooped up most of the singapore/malaysia ones. as far as these zines go, many are amateur photocopied efforts from the pre-Internet 1990s, many idealistic/naive/reactionary/rambling tracts (think pre-internet blogs!). yet as historical artefacts, they are an amazing resource in capturing the concerns among the scene in the day, the different points of view, the reports on the ground. already spotted: interviews with STOMPIN GROUND, Ginette PSYCHO SONIQUE (later ASTREAL). early articles by Shaiful (PROHIBITED PROJECTS), Vijay Singh (DJ, emcee). eventually i hope to be able to create a space to share these to a wider audience.
