Bloomingdale’s 1000 Third Avenue, New York: Marilyn would frequently shop here, and it has been said that Bloomingdale’s was one of her favorite New York stores. Bonwit Teller 4-10 East 57th Street, New York (Later Galleries Lafayette New York): Bonwit Teller was once one of Marilyn’s regular haunts for clothes. Jax West 57th Street, New York: Marilyn would frequently visit this store and the Beverly Hills branch. Martha 475 Park Avenue, at 58th Street, New York: Another of Marilyn’s top-ten stores. Sak’s Fifth Avenue 611 5th Avenue, Between 49th and 59th Streets, New York: Opened in 1926, the year of Norma Jeane’s birth. Marilyn was a big fan of this store and would also visit the Beverly Hills branch. THEATRES, CINEMAS & NIGHT-CLUBS Capitol Theatre Broadway and 51st Street, New York: On January 31, 1961, just 11 days after Marilyn and Arthur Miller divorced, Marilyn attended the premiere of The Misfits with Montgomery Clift. Carnegie Hall 881 7th Avenue, at 57th Street, New York: Marilyn went here in 1955 to see Russian pianist Emil Gilels, accompanied by her friend Norman Rosten. Copacabana 10 East 60th Street, New York: After the press conference to announce the formation of Marilyn Monroe Productions, Marilyn and friends went to see Frank Sinatra in concert here. Loew’s State Theatre Broadway and 54th Street, New York: The premiere of The Seven Year Itch was held here on June 1, 1955. To celebrate the event, a huge cut-out of Marilyn was placed above the theatre, showing her with her skirt billowing around her ears. Marilyn attended the premiere with her ex-husband Joe DiMaggio. Madison Square Garden (new address) 4 Pennsylvania Avenue, New York: On March 31, 1955, a circus benefit was held at the original MSG, in order to raise money for victims of arthritis. Marilyn appeared at the event wearing a wonderful costume and riding a pink elephant. It was also at MSG that Marilyn appeared to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to President Kennedy, which took place on May 19, 1962. Martin Beck Theatre 302 West 45th Street, Between 8th and 9th Avenues, New York: Reportedly, during one night of a performance of Teahouse of the August Moon, Marilyn appeared on stage during the curtain calls so that she could say she had appeared on Broadway. Radio City Music Hall 1260 6th Avenue at 50th Street, New York: On June 13, 1957 the premiere of The Prince and the Showgirl was held here. The premiere also doubled as a charity event to raise money for the Milk Fund. Roseland 239 West 52nd Street, New York: On March 13, 1961, a benefit was held at Roseland to raise money for the Actors Studio. Despite only having left the hospital 8 days earlier, Marilyn attended the event looking tired but nonetheless beautiful. Trans-Lux Theatre Corner of 52nd Street and Lexington Avenue: The famous skirt-blowing scene from The Seven Year Itch was filmed outside this theatre in 1954. The filming, held in early hours of the morning, attracted thousands of fans and photographers and also husband Joe DiMaggio. While fans were thrilled with the event, Joe was less than happy, and the night was said to be the contributing factor in the break-up of their marriage. Victoria Theatre Broadway at 46th Street, New York: On December 18, 1956, Marilyn attended the premiere of Baby Doll, which was held here.
