monday morning in the studio. working on three little paintings. getting my footing back. focusing. small paintings take so much concentration for me. I WANT TO MAKE PAINTINGS THAT BREAK YOUR HEART and make me/you want to live! yesterday i wandered around LACMA for a bit. i had wanted to see the new show on abstraction. some great paintings by many of my peers.. Mark Bradford, Mary Weatherford, Analia Saban, Mark Grotjahn, Amy Sillman, Sterling Ruby.. it was inspiring and then i got jealous and sad and deflated. i really hate when i get into that frame of mind. i wanted to be in that show. Jealousy is such a weird emotion.. so pointless. so i experienced a brief blip of it and then it was gone... and now here i am back in the studio.. making work. listening to Chaka Khan Aint Nobody.. a dance party in the studio. an artist alone but connected. no need to hold onto negative thoughts. make paintings that break hearts and make people want to live. so here is my question.. have you ever been jealous of other artists? and how have you dealt with jealousy?
