nice ride,,,good cause .... (ATLANTA - January 13, 2015) In commemoration of Confederate General Robert E. Lees birthday, Georgias annual Robert E. Lee Celebration this year is scheduled for this Saturday, January 17, only two days before the actual day of Lees birth, January 19. The special ceremony will take place in Milledgeville at the Old Capitol Building which served as the states capitol during the War for Southern Independence. Robert E. Lee has been honoured for the last 150 years all across America as both a Christian gentleman and perhaps Americas greatest military leader of all time. Like most Southern states, Georgia still officially observes the birthday of Robert E. Lee as a state holiday, and similar celebrations to the one in Georgia are scheduled in every Southern state this weekend. Georgias celebration this year will take place in Milledgeville, the historic location of Georgias wartime capital. As the organization founded by actual Confederate veterans and their real sons in 1896, the Sons of Confederate Veterans will again be officiating and organizing Georgias event. As in years past, the days events will begin with a parade in Lees honour at 10:45 in front of the Old Governors Mansion in Milledgeville; those marching in the parade are asked to be on the ground and ready at 10:30. The parade will end a short distance away at the Old Capitol Building. Both individuals and organizations from the public are invited to participate in the parade. Anyone who is not a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans is asked to contact Dan Coleman before Saturday at dancofin@yahoo Next, beginning promptly at 11:00 and following the parade, an official birthday ceremony and educational program will take place inside the legislative chamber of the Old Capitol Building. Attorney Martin OToole will be the main speaker; and his topic will concentrate on Lees leadership at the Battle of Sharpsburg, one of the Army of Northern Virginias two attempts to invade Northern territory during the War. Again, the public is invited to this portion of the days events. Following the program inside the Capitol building, those present will be invited directly outside at noon where reenactors will present the colours of the South and fire both a musket volley and cannon volley in honour of the Souths greatest general.
