A ritual killer lays hold on a fellow human being and mercilessly kills him/her as a sacrifice to a god. The ‘god’ to which some people make sacrifice is not a piece of carved wood, a bird, river, the sun, moon or a four-footed beast. Money and the things that it can purchase are the ‘god’ to which many have sacrificed the lives of other people. Proverbs 1:10-16, “My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them! They may say, ‘Come and join us. Let’s hide and kill someone! Just for fun, let’s ambush the innocent! Let’s swallow them alive, like the grave; let’s swallow them whole, like those who go down to the pit of death. Think of the great things we’ll get! We’ll fill our houses with all the stuff we take. Come, throw in your lot with us; we’ll all share the loot.’ My child, don’t go along with them! Stay far away from their paths. They rush to commit evil deeds. They hurry to commit murder.” Armed robbers, hired assassins, etc. have not only made money and material things their god but have made even their flesh their god. There are also those who through fetish means sacrifice the blood of their fellow human beings to demons in exchange for money. Some have even been known to use their own children, spouses or parents for sacrifice. We never have any positive adjective to qualify ritual killers. They are merciless, evil, wicked, demon-possessed, etc. We just cannot imagine anyone being so callous as to take the life of a fellow human being just to satisfy his own selfish need. And God does not take kindly to ritual killing either. That is why He said, through the Prophet Habakkuk, “Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!” (Habakkuk 2:12). The New Living Translation of that scripture says, “What sorrow awaits you who build cities with money gained through murder and corruption!” Money is not the only reason for which people kill. Some kill for political power, position, promotion at work, favor, fame, etc. Ritual killers would sacrifice other peoples lives to get or retain something they want. The killing may not be with a physical or spiritual weapon. Some people ‘kill’ others by speaking evil about them, putting them down, lying against them, etc. Many people have watched careers, businesses, etc. which they built over a long period collapse because someone who wanted to reap where he did not sow cooked up lies against them and got them into trouble. There is, however, a very terrible kind of ritual killing which a lot of Christians have been involved in without knowing that that is what they are doing. Jesus is coming soon. Anyone who is not born again and on the Lord’s side at His coming cannot spend eternity in heaven (John 3:3). This means he/she will be in hell for eternity (Revelation 20:15). It is not the will of God for people to go to hell (2nd Peter 3:9). He therefore wants those of us who are saved to go and tell the rest of the world about the death and resurrection of Jesus and the free salvation that God is offering us through Him (Mark 16:15). Now, even though we know the eternal fate of unbelievers, many Christians do not care to share the Gospel with those around them, and there are various reasons for this. For instance, some are afraid of getting fired from their jobs for speaking about Christ. Therefore even when the Spirit of God prompts them to share their faith with a co-worker they stifle His voice and continue as if they heard nothing. Some others are afraid of losing their lives as a result of presenting Jesus. What if the person the Lord is leading them to share with belongs to another religion or a cult and decides to kill them for daring to preach Jesus to them? Some Christians have friends/acquaintances that constantly award them very good contracts. The thought of sharing with their ‘benefactors’ the good news of salvation through Jesus scares these children of God. They do not know how their ‘benefactors’ would react to the Gospel. What if they get angry and break every tie with them? That would mean the end of the contracts they have been receiving. What quality of life would they and their families have when the contracts are gone? They remind themselves that wisdom is profitable to direct (Ecclesiastes 10:10). They forget at that time that the fear of the Lord is true wisdom, and to forsake evil is real understanding (Job 28:28). This means that the only person who is truly wise is the one who obeys the Lord’s instruction. Note that if in a bid to save your life, business, job, relationships, etc. you refuse to witness to unbelievers around you, you are a ritual killer - you are willing to sacrifice the eternal life of people around you just to acquire or retain something that is temporal. It is one thing for you to preach and people do not accept Jesus, and another thing entirely for you to fail to share the Gospel. Ezekiel 33:8-9, “When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.” As long as you refuse to share the Gospel with unbelievers you are in danger of having your hands stained with blood if they go into eternity without Christ, just like every ritual killer’s hands are stained with blood. Deliver yourself from blood guiltiness – be a witness for Christ. But don’t preach the Gospel just so that you will be guiltless before God (because then you will only speak and not really care whether they surrender to Christ or not). Instead, be truly concerned about their eternal wellbeing. Pray for them and then tell them about Jesus with love and with a genuine desire to see them surrender to Him. God is not happy with ritual killers. Make sure you’re not one of them. buildingfortheking
