#observations Today, after a long gap of seventeen years, reconnected with Gujarati poet and translator, Kanji Patel, who has also done important work in oral and tribal cultures. So, as Kanji bhai phoned and we chatted, he said, well, Im going to retire from service in a fortnight. I said, ah. He said, well, time flies. Then he said, You must be 52 or 53 years old now. I said, No, Ill be 43 years next month. When we met, I was 26 then. That set me thinking. I was translating major Gujarati poets at 26, publishing in a national journal of repute. So, even if you factor in years of wastage or not doing apparent much, in effect, there hasnt been much to lose. Most people would have started later. So, I can always move ahead at full steam once again. Amen-- to this thought at the wonderful confluence of Durga Puja, Dusshera and Eid.
