ok. so here it is folks. at the beginning of the week I was on my way to deliver a load in Colorado, as I came over a hill in the middle of the night I came upon a behicle parked in the travel lane with no lights on. it was real dark, and had just stopped raining.i saw the vehicle when I was less than 100 feet from it. at 75 mph, that gave me time to drop my coffee, grab the wheel with both hands and slam both feet onto the pedals to reduce momentum as fast as possible. needless to say I was unable to avoid a collision, I hit the back of the boat and trailer being towed, which literally bounced the front of my semi into the air drove the trailer into the pavement and made most of the boat disintegrate. the force of the impact caused the trailer to disconnect from his vehicle and shove him to the side of the road. the hood of my truck was forced back and over my windshield and also put me in the median strip, where I travelled about 250 yards before I managed to bring my powerless rig to a stop. my poor puppy was thrown form the bunk all the way into the dash and at first I thought he was killed. I also had a feeling someone else was dead given the force of the collision. I ran back to the scene to find an old man with a walker in the middle of the highway yelling about the damage to his stuff. dead at the scene: a fridge, a microwave oven, a television, several boxes of personal items. never found the motor from the boat. the cleanup crew did find a sign that had been on the back of the boat in leu of any lighting, a white sign with orange letters, moving. after checking on him I went back to my truck to get my flashlight and camera and to check on my dog who was shaken up but not injured. I headed back just in time to see an avalanche top the rise and plow into the trailer that I had smashed into the pavement, and within seconds be rear ended by a pickup of hunters on their way to Colorado. the state troopers arrived and began working to check everyone for injuries and securing the scene. after checking me and my paperwork they also checked the old man, he was found to be at fault for illegally parking in a roadway, no insurance, and pending others to be determined by the investigation. I was cleared of any wrong doing and we then spent four hours in the 30 degree weather securing and towing my truck and trailer as well as finding a motel in the middle of the night in the middle of no where. I have some lovely bruises from this new thrilling carnival ride, no one was seriously injured in any of the vehicles thank God, and the old man was arrested. my ribs are sore from the seat belt, my lower back was compacted by the airborne stunt, and my neck is very stiff and sore. I am thankful to be alive, it was nice that the troopers gave me a compliment on keepingthe truck upright instead of rooling it, but I do wish the whooe thing had never happened. after almost fifteen years and over two million safe miles driven I am really thinking another career may be in order. I ask that all of my friends please pray for all those involved as well as guidance for me from the Lord.
