ok so its been 3 days of evaluating the CHROMEBOOK and so far i am very pleased.....as i have said for most people who really spend 95% of their time on internet related activities like facebook and email, and maybe some other stuff like word processing....it is an amazing fast portable mini laptop device for $199 and can help you avoid spending a lot of money on a high priced computer most people dont need.... this is a great alternative you can order one of these brand new 3rd generation Chromebooks from Acer.... amazon/Acer-Chromebook-11-6-Inch-Haswell-micro-architecture/dp/B00FNPD1VW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1385340707&sr=8-2&keywords=chromebook+acer+720 ....here is a list of things i have been able to do with it so far.... 1. facebook...of course works perfect 2. any website including those running adobe flash (which ipads still cant run websites with adobe flash) 3. gmail runs perfect 4. photo management and downloading....has a SD card for digital cameras....best to download to google drive or google photos (free unlimited basic photo downloads) 5. remote access to my office server and able to work on all my electronic medical records 6. managment of all my personal files now moved to google drive (comes with 100gb free for 2 years which normally runs $5 per month for a savings of $120) 7. word processing through google docs and it can convert them easily to microsoft word files 8. spreadsheet through google sheets and again converts easily to microsoft excel 9. presentations through google slides and converts easily to power point 10. watch netflix 11. watch youtube 12. listen to music on pandora...has a decent pair of speakers 13. play a couple of basic online games like solitaire and it has free angry birds (although i dont play that one) 14. access hospital computers...was able to access the hospital mobile app but still trying for full access through CITRIX to the hospital...does have an app for that...emailed hospital computer people to help me work out a small bug 15. PRINT anything through GOOGLE CLOUD PRINT....YOU CANNOT HOOK UP A PRINTER TO THE LAPTOP but it is quite easy to print wirelessly to other printers hooked up to other computers or wifi printers. 16. as my friend Lance pointed out the chromebook comes with 12 free inflight sessions worth $150 if you fly.... WHAT YOU CANT DO.... cant play advanced windows based video games ( i dont do this anyway) cant run windows program (although can run them remotely on windows based computer) cant skype...but does have a webcam and mic and can use google hangout to talk to people instead...havent tried that yet but am going to cant hook a printer up to it (but can print through google cloud print as above) OTHER AMAZING FEATURES.... SIZE: weighs only 2.8 pds and so easy to carry and hold on lap or table BOOTS UP IN SECONDS...no spinning hard drive..runs cool BATTERY LIFE.... 8 HOURS ON SINGLE CHARGE! ANTI GLARE SCREEN...supposedly works outside in bright light HDMI port....can run a cable to your big screen tv and watch netflix etc WI-FI seems very fast MOUSE...can hook up a wireless mouse through usb port...(IPAD STILL CANT DO THIS) KEYBOARD...can hook up a full size keyboard through usb port (IPAD STILL CANT DO THIS EITHER) FLASH DRIVE...can connect a 16gb or 32gb flash drive and this doubles or triples the memory capacity of the unit (IPAD STILL CANT DO THIS EITHER) So my advice is if you are looking for great small portable laptop for family member or yourself and dont want to break the bank then buy one!
