one crazy play When I was in eighth grade, I played a lot of street football. I would get home from school and rush outside to meet some of my neighbors and their friends to play tag football on Mountain Way, my hometown street. Sean Butler, who was my next-door neighbor, and much older than me, was universally revered and he pretty much ran the show. Some of his friends were much less friendly than he was, but I loved playing so I took the risk of getting knocked onto the asphalt of my quiet street by one of the less upstanding characters that played. One day, I was on defense, and Sean threw a perfect pass deep toward the end zone, which just happened to be anything in the street past a telephone pole. John Lanieve, another neighbor who I didnt really care for, was the intended receiver. He made an amazing catch over his shoulder, directly in front of the aforementioned pole. Unfortunately for John, he was running so fast that his momentum carried him in the direction of the pole -- and into it. He ran smack into it -- at full speed -- and fell back like a felled tree. When he finally stood up, his face had a huge red streak on it. He kept playing somehow, and we all laughed for about 5 minutes. John didnt laugh...
