one thing I like about American literature professors: if a certain text (say, Eliot`s The Waste Land) is difficult to read, they will admit they don`t understand it in its entirety just like the students, but they will discuss what it is exactly that creates difficulty and how this situation can be dealt with. so much better than acting like a lean, mean, can-interpret-it-all machine and intimidating people into not reading at all.
