pro Israelis all over - share this!!!. hereby is the english version of the what if horror script. we try to tackle the problem of demonstrating the israely standpoint by using fictional drama that relates directly to the september 11th bombings translation was done by the brilliant Shiri Kraus SHARE IF U CARE! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SEPTEMBER 11th, 2000 (unfortunately, this script is fictional) ************************************************** It was 6:30 on the morning of September 11th in the year 2000. The last squadron has just taken off, mission bound. The American Defence Minister stared glumly at his computer screen. The concise report on his screen didn’t reveal the amount of effort and work that went into the year it took devising it- a giant combined operation, including aerial and ground troops in intricate synchronisation. “This is like a modern, surreal D-day” one of the high ranking officers who opposed the operation quipped from across the table during their last meeting at The Pentagon. The Defence Minister tried to stop himself from thinking of the huge political risk he has undertaken, but this he knew for sure: Afghanistan was a desert the American public couldn’t care less of, a million miles away from sight and mind, and little was communicated about and from it. All it took was for there to be just one victim over the tolerable threshold- and The President will have his head on a stick. In other words- goodbye internal elections of 2001. . . . The evening news were calamitous. It felt as though CNN and Fox News were trying to overdo each other’s reports of shock and travesty: “In a joint unprecedented, unprovoked attack in Afghanistan, two peaceful villages were completely obliterated, and the death toll is currently 80 and rising… Some 20 to 30 of the victims were children… Five buildings and their occupants were burned to a cinder…” The British SKY News Network was quick with a special panoramic report- “Of all places, why the hell are US forces going to Afghanistan to look for Al Qaida?” The defence minister spent hours answering endless questins in endless interviews, it felt like his tongue will wither and dry out. He stressed the importance of a successful military operation, the destruction of a major terrorist headquarters, the thwarting of potential suicide bombings in The UK and Spain, maybe even in New York. The news anchor sniggered “A terrorist attack? In New York? At the height of Baseball season? Mr Minister, aren’t you being a little melodramatic?” The President couldn’t publicly support him. He knew why. Someone had to pay the price of the mission’s success. Reports of violent masses demonstrating and rioting in Paris, Istanbul, even in Chicago kept flowing in. They were chanting in rage “Stars and banners, go and hide, you’re soaked in the blood of a defenceless child”, “Operation Desert Holocaust”, and so on and so forth. A special committee conducted a thorough and thoughtful review of the events leading up to the assault, and their conclusions were handed in April the following year. The Defence Minister has done what was expected of him, and handed his resignation to the president in July 2001. With his head down and spirit beaten, he turned his back to the gleaming corridors of the white house, as he turned his back and left for the last time. The following months of summer were mundane and boring as usual. Nothing special happened On September 11th, 2001. It was just another ordinary day.
