remarks made by BDP members though..aah mo ke go thapatsa Tawana Kgosi Tawana Moremi’s royal regiment, Matsaakgang, have called an emergency meeting at Batawana main kgotla tomorrow afternoon, in the wake of a verbal onslaught on their chief by the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). BDP members together with President Ian Khama descended on Maun to address rallies at Maun east and West at which Kgosi Tawana Moremi was insulted. His ex-wife, Goitseone Moremi, was also paraded to the crowd and sat at the top table. Speaker after speaker took turns attacking Tawana for having left BDP to join the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). BDP’s Campaign Manager Keneilwe Monageng, National Campaign Manager Alec Seametso, Central Committee Member Ace Molelo and Minister of Lands and Housing Lebonaamang Mokalake all attacked Tawana and descried him a failure who let his family down. Seametso who diverted from his usual style of talking about projects achieved by the party, talked of how Tawana failed to maintain his family. “He failed to take his kids and Khama took them under his care but he goes around with Duma Boko saying they will jail Khama once they take over government. How can they jail someone who is taking care of their kids?” he said. Seametso said that Batawana should not give Tawana any respect since he is a politician not a Chief. He said that when someone vacates Bogosi he leaves the dignity that goes with it behind. “He is never present in Parliament and behaves as if he is Jesus; vote him out before he sells your land.” Seametso said that they are not going to allow the banned American Actor Rick Yune into the country. He accused UDC President Boko of trying to sell the country to Yune. “Gareje madi a di-film, gare disatanists,” said Seametso. Molelo who was Tawana’s campaign Manager in 2008 elections described Tawana as an abusive person who goes around beating women. “He kicked a woman from a moving vehicle and deserted his family, what kind of a leader is that, even his kgotla setting is not same as others.” During the highly charged meeting Mokalake described Tawana as a crook who wants to take Moremi Game Reserve and Maun Educational Park for his benefit. He told attendants that he has acquired proof in which Tawana claims to have been given the land in which Moremi Game Reserve is located from Basarwa. Khama said that he found it appropriate to take care of Tawana’s family since they are related. He said that Tawana has been attacking him but he will not give up on him since he does not want to cause divisions between Bangwato and Batawana. Confirming the meeting, Frank Kehemetse said it was intended to update the community on preparations for Tawana’s 45th birthday Party. “It has nothing to do with what happened yesterday and we will not discuss political issues,” said Kehemetswe. Pledges for Tawana’s birthday are said to have skyrocketed after the Friday rallies. A source within BDP told The Voice that their members are not happy with what happened and demand an apology. “They are threatening to vote for the opposition and it is a draw back to the good campaigns we have been doing.”
