repost from @bygats DIAMOND D FLAWLESS 50 carats The exact origin of diamonds is still something of a mystery even today. It is known that diamonds were created by nature at least 990 million years ago and many are as old as 4.2 billion years. The elemental forces of heat and pressure transformed carbon into diamonds 150-200 km below the surface of the Earth. 100 to 250 tonnes of ore must be mined and processed from one average kimberlite (rock) pipe to produce a 1 carat, polished, gem-quality diamond. Gem quality polished and cut diamonds are then grouped into different qualities including carat weight, color, clarity and cut. This classification will help determine its value on the market and more generally help us appreciate its character and uniqueness. The color grade begins with the letter D, representing the rarest and most desirable colorless diamonds, and descend to the letter Z. The clarity is assessed by examination of imperfections - that is inclusions (internal objects) and blemishes (external marks) - under 10x magnification. A flawless diamond has no inclusions or blemishes. An internally flawless diamond only shows blemishes visible to a skilled grader in a laboratory.
