...so today is my B-day...I have gone from the dubious distinction of being 60, to being in my 60s....I wonder what the teenage me would think of that?....Im on vacay this week, so I woke up at 9, watched Jarhead w/ Jake Gyllenhaal (good flick) and then after noontime, I took a nap (hey, Im allowed, Im in my 60s!)... ...but I have had reminders all week that the day was coming as it was on my 11th birthday that JFK was assassinated ...as w/ all my peers, I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news...I was in Mr Hughes 5th grade class in Colonial Village Elementary outside Niagara Falls, when around lunchtime, the principal came on the intercom and announced that the president had been shot in Dallas...thus began 3 or 4 days of non-stop news coverage w/ no commercials - I remember watching it on our black-and-white TV...the ironic thing was, a few years earlier, when JFK was running for president, he drove past our school in a Cadillac convertible and all the children were brought outside the school to wave as he went by - and he waved back...plus the fact that I was raised by Irish Catholic parents who were born and raised in MA, so JFK was like a saint to us...it affected us deeply... ...on a lighter note, when I fired-up the computer today, I found out the babe-alicious Scarlett Johansson was also born on this date....who burst on the scene as the traumatized girl in The Horse Whisperer...ScarJo, darling, if you could see me now, I have my fingers up by the side of my face, making the international symbol for call me...:)
