the Actors Workshop. 2015. A new look. Its a new year. So, Im changing things up a bit. Check it out. If it looks like a good fit, come join us. It wont be easy. Ill push you, as always. But I think the new format is a good one. Tough. But good. As actors you need to be working. If youre not working on set or on stage you should be pushing your boundaries and exploring new aspects of your talent. The Workshop is a great place to do that. In the past I have offered two formats: 1. A Workshop that focused mostly on monologues. 2. And one where scene study was the emphasis. Six sessions. 6:30 to 10:00 on Mon/Thurs evenings. Heres the new schedule for the January, 2015 Workshop: 1. Seven sessions instead of six with a mixed menu. 2. 6:00 to 10:00, Mon/Thurs evenings. Heres the new format, session by session: 1. The Audition. I will send out sides, two days ahead of time, with which you will audition. You arrive at the studio ready to audition with your headshot/resumé in hand. You audition. Ill break it down for you. Well work on it. Ill push you. I want you to improve your auditioning skills. Most actors lack the confidence and the tools to audition well. 2. The Second Audition. Ill send out sides ahead of time just like the previous session. Again, we break it down. Work on it. 3. Monologue One. Ill email you several options well in advance. You pick. You show up memorized and ready to go. I critique. Break it down. Be ready. This is your only shot at this monologue. Be prepared and bring it. 4. Monologue Two. Same scenario as above. If you really missed the mark on your first monologue you can redo it in this session. Your choice. However, I encourage you to do a new monologue in this session. Push yourself. Do you want to be an actor? Okay then. Push yourself. 5. Scene Rehearsal. Prior to this session I will assign you a scene and a scene partner. You come to session 5 memorized, but without having made any firm choices as to character or flow of the scene. We rehearse it. Work it. Discuss characterization. The flow and rhythm of the scene. 6. Scene Shoot. You come completely memorized and ready to shoot. We shoot the scene. I edit it and upload your finished scene. 7. Industry Guest(s). Heres where I invite a film industry professional or two to come in and observe your work and give feedback. In the past Ive had agents, producers, directors and casting directors attend this session. We can play back your scene, you can do your monologue. Or both. As is customary at the Workshop, all your work will be on camera and uploaded to my website (theactorsworkshop.biz) where you can review it, share it and learn from it. I hope you like the new format. Im anxious to try it out and see how it flows. Happy New Year. Ill see you in the room. M.
