the political gamesmanship in orlando regarding ubers incursion into the ride-for-hire market is despicable. taxi companies -- mears, namely -- are up in arms about it to the extent of mobilizing their lobbying arm in city hall to enforce bullshit regulations on an upstart company. in a predictable irony, established big-business, the champions of the regulation-free, letting the market decide ideal feel threatened once a newcomer encroaches on their business plan and profits, and begin screaming about regulations and how uber is not adhering to them. this is the best thing to happen to orlando since food trucks, three-for-one happy hours and drunken swan boat rides. dont let corporate greed stifle the growth of our city.
