the reason why rhapsody in blue has such staying power is because it represents the meeting of the spontaneity of jazz with the note-for-note precision of classical music. it represents a time that will never come again in music; a shining moment, borne of the inspired, genius mind of George Gershwin. this is the best performance ive seen in a long time, partly because the piano isnt tuned just quite correctly. i cant put my finger on exactly how, but the effect is astonishing. and that little extra piece at the end, at about 19:00, is just beyond belief. goosebumps on my goosebumps: https://youtube/watch?v=qLTManObB40
