the shit between mainland china, taiwan, tibet, xinjiang, mongolia, and hongkong. now this is gonna be fun because youve all been lied to by the canadian and western media. i hope you didnt believe only in the one-sided story youve been told since childhood. terminology: chinese: a group of people who are connected to the chinese lands (listed below), consisting of 56 tribes, over 100 languages and several religious beliefs. when people say chinese they usually mean the Han tribe. han tribe: the original chinese people that lived in the plains of yellow river, then through a history of being conquered and assimilation, the han tribe of today is born, making up almost the entire chinese population. PRC - peoples republic of china, the current dominant chinese government, claiming control of inner mongolia, hongkong, island of taiwan, islands of southern chinese sea, tibet, xinjiang, manchuria. actually controls all but the island of taiwan. limited control over the southern islands. RC. the republic of china, the previous government of china until 1949, still in power. claiming control of all of the above and outer mongolia, and bits of of tibet and manchuria too i think. actually controls just the island of taiwan and some of the southern islands. tibet: the highlands to the southwest of the chinese territories. became incorporated into china after the mongolian conquest in the 1300s and been a part of the greater china since. i dont want to go into too much details, but if you really think they should be an independent state, youre not entirely wrong. however, if you think the chinese government is brutalizing the people in tibet, youre not entirely correct. the peaceful and poor way of life of the tibetan people was disturbed by chinas attempt at modernization and making it a tourist site. physically beating the people does happen, but its not entirely directed against the tibetans. it happens to everyone and there have been cases of riots. speaking from a genetics pov, tibetans and han share at least half of the ancestry. the Qiang tribe from ancient times diffused into both long ago. xinjiang. been a part of china here and there since the 700s, and permanently since the mongolian conquest. uighurs and han chinese have long had an alliance with each other from defending against the tibetan invasions in the 700s, but now they fear each other. several decades ago they were all in bilingual schools, but now the han and the uighurs are in different schools (han in chinese schools and uighurs in uighur speaking schools), some believe this led to further fear and segregation of the two tribes, some believe this allowed for a strengthened cultural identity of the uighurs. either way its not working out and terrorist attacks (organized by the uighurs east turkmenistan groups) are frequent in china now in all parts of the country, leaving hundreds dead in the last few months. the thieves from this tribe wont get arrested because of minority protection policies. the han are pretty pissed about this and theres quite a bit of hatred between these two now. be careful in crowded places. in ancestry, uighurs are related to turks and han. mongolia: the current mongolians are no different than the han. rich as hell from cattle and dairy, sort of became assimilated into the han culture after conquering china in the 1300s. manchuria: again, same as above, but change the year to 1600s. taiwan: the island of taiwan was discovered in the 200s, and became a part of china fully after the mongolian conquest. however due to its remoteness, it has been under the control of the dutch and japanese for centuries. and also due to its remoteness, the PRC gov never managed to go across the sea to take the land, and the RC gov established full rule over this island. technically its a province in both countries, but nowadays people refer to it as a country because its de facto a country...but!!! if youre in mainland, dont say taiwan is an independent country. if youre in taiwan, dont say taiwan is not. hongkong: been a british colony after the chinese gov surrendered in the 1800s and was returned to china in 1997. a once glorious and rich city, now going downhill due to plenty of problems which im too lazy to cover right now. the people imo are very strong, hardworking, friendly. there are some shitheads though that hate on the mainlanders because theyve been pretty rude (which they are) as tourists. plus they dont like the commies gov either. ill cover the commie gov later. mainland is gonna be the next chapter.
