those of you who know me, also know I have a true passion for hunting and wildlife experiences. over the years, i have had hundreds of fabulous encounters with all forms of wildlife, from rattlesnakes to a quick peak at a mountain lion.2014 deer season was a perfect storm of peak rut and decent weather. last week of ND deer season, I was in an area that was infested with WT bucks,all rutting and chasing does. i was well concealed with my MA-21 call approx. 25 ft away. now the dumb ass in me, no camera.without rambling on to long, I had 12-14 different bucks attacking me from nearly every direction over a period of about 3 hrs.at least 4 in the 155-170 range. one I recall best was a monster 6x6 that charged my MA-21, knocked it off the rock it sat on. saw him at 25 ft and he never knew I was there. rack was a perfect 6x6 with one side having every point including brow tine,broken off. would like to see the buck that kicked his ass !!! his good side was intact. this buck would have been 21-22 wide. jumping ahead to 1-1-15, was back in same area (WITH CAMERA) and hoping to take a few pics. while I saw nearly 100 deer and a many of the same bucks. i never did see the banged up 6x6 again. rut was near over and got no response from the bucks I found, except this one pictured below. he was in a CRP quarter with an herd of about 30 but alone about 50 yds from main group. when they heard the MA-21,none reacted and herd slowly all moved away except this one. he stood up, started a slow charge from about 200 yds. pic #1 was in crp, pic #2 was after he jumped fence, pic #3 was at about 40 yds (closest he got) and pic #4 was bolting away after busting me. funniest part of this encounter was that I was sitting in my pickup. I apologize for the picture quality but if you have a zoom feature, you will see this buck had great mass tho not very wide. it was a great encounter and lessoned learned is get a better camera and never go afield without it. happy new year !!!
