today i rescued a little grasshopper from a sticky paper fly trap. i took out my pocket knife and slid it under his tiny legs to separate him from the bulk of the glue. once he was off, i took him to a nearby pond and carefully washed the rest of the fly paper residue off with a wet leaf. after that, i used the leaf to put some water in my hand and the little guy drank and drank. i could feel his little mouth pincer things tickle my palm while he did so. and once he seemed content, i set him down on a rock so he could continue his important grasshopper business. every life is important. were all just trying to make it to the next day. just because a lot of things are smaller than us or not as smart doesnt mean they dont deserve kindness. also, im pretty sure im king of the grasshoppers now and thats a nice feeling.
