. . . . today the Senate Majority Coalition Caucus agreed to adopt the 2/3 tax rule. All 26 members supported it, making it tougher to raise taxes in the Senate (for the next two years). This is a massive victory for the taxpayers of our state. The 23 Senate Democrats pissed, moaned, and complained, squealing like pigs, but in the end, the vote was 26 yes, 23 no. Credit goes to the voters who have 5 times approved the 2/3 tax rule. Who gave the 2/3 tax rule more votes than any initiative in state history. Who passed it in all 39 counties. Who passed it in all 44 legislative districts outside Seattle. Almost 2/3 of voters support the 2/3 policy. Credit goes to our thousands of supporters who qualified and passed I-960, I-1053, and I-1185 and who for the past week have sent tons of emails and made tons of phone calls to convince state senators to support reinstating the 2/3 protection. It proves that, by working together, we can have a huge influence and impact in the Legislature. This is an extraordinary legislative achievement for Sen. Doug Ericksen (R-Ferndale) and Sen. Michael Baumgartner (R-Spokane). They heroically brought this proposal forward, worked diligently to get it passed, and successfully convinced their fellow members of the Senate Majority Coalition Caucus to join them in honoring the voters overwhelming mandate. All 26 senators in the MCC are to be congratulated and cheered for listening to the people. For standing up to the powerful special interests. For making it tougher for Governor Inslee to push his aggressive tax-hiking agenda. For making it tougher for Democrats to sidestep the will of the people. Their 2/3 tax rule is temporary. So the fight over taxes isnt over. We still need to bird-dog the Legislature this session because Inslee and the Democrats will continue to push to raise taxes. Despite the 2/3 tax rule, Democrats are going to continue to push for higher taxes. Weve gotta be there to back up the Republicans in the state house and Majority Coalition Caucus in the state senate. It is critically important for each of you to send one more email.
