true words of a true love....by Mouhanad Hammami There is something so magical about the old works of Chris De Burgh (pre Lady in Red) … Every time I play some of the old stuff, it is as if I am in trance… It immediately transforms me to days of yesteryears … days of love, rebellion and heartache … It brings images of Aleppo, our neighborhood, the pilgrimage to “Nadweh” … images of two “Mazda” cars cruising back and forth between “Azeezieh” and “Shahba” with a mandatory pass by “Sabeel” … of faces and friends … boys and girls … and ancient memories of old loves and hopeless romances … These songs never fail to produce the same reaction in my forty six years old tortured soul … they illicit a roller coaster of feelings … longing to a dream … to a place that no longer resembles that dream … to the city that no longer carries a shape of a city … feelings of helplessness and hope regardless of how contradictory this sounds … these songs never fail to blur my vision, not only because they take me to another world, but because they never fail to make me cry … In my life as a “Traveler” beyond the “Borderline” and I staid every night to my “Lonely Sky” sitting in my room with “Satin Green Shutters” sipping “Moonlight and Vodka” … these songs always gets me “Crying and Laughing” waiting for my “Ship to Shore” and for this “Sailor” to be “Flying Home” one day … Thank you Chris …
