u DEP GOV, MAGORO, KAOJE MAKE SOUTHERN KEBBI LIST Kebbi State Deputy Governor Ibrahim Khalil Aliyu, Senator Muhammadu Magoro and Professor Abubakar Kaoje made the list of nominees at the Kebbi South preliminary screening of governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The exercise was conducted by Zuru and Yauri Emirate Elders Forum on Monday at Zuru and Yauri respectively. The three names will be formerly submitted to Governor Saidu Dakingari by a Southern Kebbi team of elders to be led by Professor Mahdi Ngaski who is the chairman of the Yauri Elders Forum. Our reporter, who was at the Zuru Emir’s Palace, venue of the closed door meeting and screening exercise, observed that Senator Magoro who is the chairman of the Zuru Elders Forum had to step aside before the commencement of the exercise around 2pm. Retired Gen Ishaya Bamaiyi was said to have taken over the chairmanship on acting capacity for the period of the screening that was conducted by voting. A source at the meeting told Daily Trust that Gen Bamaiyi had insisted on the screening to bring out selected aspirants, adding that “we shall submit these names to Governor Saidu Dakingari as soon as he returns from Hajj and we are optimistic that come 2015, a governorship candidate from Kebbi South will be supported.” The source also confirmed that out of the 24 votes cast, Professor Kaoje polled 11 votes, Senator Magoro nine, while Alh Zubairu Turaki, the youngest among them polled four, while deputy governor Aliyu emerged as the sole candidate from Yauri Emirate. Both Aliyu and Turaki are currently in Mecca for the Hajj operations. Candidates from Zuru Emirate who did not make the list include Senator Tanko Ayuba, Alhaji Hussaini Adamu, Ishaku Daudu, retired Gen Muhammadu Danhanne Isah and Bala Ubandawaki. Efforts to get their comments on the screening process were not successful as those contacted declined to speak on the matter. However, some of their supporters believed that the selection of a candidate is a party affair, hence that would be decided at the primaries, while others said they would soon come up with a position paper on the issue. --DAILY TRUST
