update from Rochester By Shawn Willey A quick summary of today is as follows: The Ophthalmologist believes that his eyesight is still good! He weighed in at a whopping 15 pounds 14 ounces! Silas has been getting all sorts of compliments on his heavier appearance! The Oncologist is happy with the scans! The small spots on his spine have never varied and may be harmless and unrelated to the brain tumor. The tumor on his brain stem showed some shrinkage and some small spots around it that showed up on the last scan are no longer visible. The major tumor in his optic pathway grew slightly. This is not a bad sign because of the timeline. He has only been on this chemo for eight weeks so the fact that it has slowed down significantly in that amount of time is very promising. It is not typical to do an MRI this soon into a treatment, but it was necessary in this instance because of the size and aggressive nature of the tumor. Ideally it will continue to slow down until it stops growing completely. Shrinkage is not out of the question so that is what we are hoping for. Where do we go from here? Continued weekly chemotherapy for a minimum of 12 months. His next scheduled MRI is three months from now. He will continue to have physical, speech, and occupational therapy. All in all a great day for our family. This is the first time since getting the diagnosis that weve been able to take a breath and feel somewhat positive about our future. There is still a long road ahead, but today was definitely a turning point. Thanks so much for all of your prayers and well wishes! They do a lot to help raise our spirits, especially on the down days. Yesterday in the waiting room I was reading a book that said sometimes God shows up and sometimes God shows off. I couldnt help but feel today that God showed up, now I am hoping that He will show off on the next MRI results! Continue praying for a miracle!
