via Ali Karim This is a dreadful idea - and a terrible development for English teaching. The idea that a book has value simply by virtue of the place of its composition rather than its artistic or literary qualities - or how much it connects us through its understanding of the human condition - is such nonsense it beggars belief that no one has challenged Gove over this. What a limiting and limited reading experience he is offering teenagers. And what a way to kill a love of literature, which, after all, transcends all borders.
