we got two beautiful chooks a couple of weeks ago and they have made themselves right at home, one is a rooster, the other is clearly his lady. they roam around our back area mingling with the ducks, cats, dogs, birds and anything else that comes along and they let us walk up to them to pick them up~ which we try to do each day to keep them friendly. the hen has decided to make a box on our patio that is nearly filled with grass trimmings, bits of hay and anything else that was swept up on the last patio clean as her nest box. jo told me this morning that our girl was cooking up an egg... which means that she was getting ready to lay. so, i went out to mums house and sat on her swing to see if i could actually catch her in the act... because how many of us have ever really seen a chook lay an egg? well, an hour and a half later and still no egg. i went home and mentioned to jo that shes still just thinking about laying and id given up watching. jo just laughed at me and said chooks wont lay if youre watching. ok, 1 horse, 3 cats, two dogs, 7 ducks, 1 bird, 4 bunnys, 19 chickens and a good size home veggie patch and im STILL just a city girl trying to play farmer! i have so much to learn ;)
