what a great weekend, i got to be just dad and watch matthew play baseball this weekend, even though i still caught the coach in my trying to come out a couple times, it was held in check. what i discovered watching him is that the boy can play ball. before the weekend started he said he was slumping at hitting, and i told him matthew if it was bottom of the 6th with two outs you are the kid I would want with the bat in his hand gee i never saw that coming but wish was granted... Saturday he went 5-6 with his bat and the last one was just that, two outs, bottom of the last inning...it was a 2 run shot to center field fence that drove in the last two runs and won the game. He played 3rd base this weekend, first time in a while, and he let a couple of hard shots get by him, he said he had a bad angle on it, and when he got home, he started firing a lacrosse ball of the wall and working on his glove speed which would pay off. Sunday: came out pretty much the way he left...swinging...and in the 3rd, a kid blasted a low flying shot and matthew dove got his glove under it and caught it for an out, boy was that a big time play. and in the finals, just like yesterday it came down to our last at bat, we came up short 10-9 and matthew was standing on deck with a man on 3rd as the last out happened, the funny thing, is after the game coaches were talking, and the coach from the other team, said another close one, if you guys would have gotten on, we were walking #32, we saw yesterday, we were going to let the guy behind him win or lose this one. respect was earned! so i can say Im quite proud, not of the medal they put around his neck, but more about the journey, of the trials, tests, pressure, and the speed and with heart that not only matthew displayed but his whole buzz 10u team, they are really coming together as a unit, its going to be fun to see where this team is in June. WOW!!
