whether we act like it or not a lot of white folks walk around with an understanding that this economic and institutional privilege we have is ill-gained, we didn’t do anything to deserve it, it’s hurting everyone else and it’s hurting us. i mean, that’s the basis actually of brown vs. the board of education, which undoes segregation at the schools. it is the notion that separate but equal is not equal, is not beneficial to anyone white or black so there’s a psychic burden associated with privilege just like the lack of it. and a lot of white folks want to escape this, we wanna walk away from responsibility for that privilege and what we’ve decided, we’ve created this equation where the opposite of white privilege is blackness, that equation is not balanced, the opposite of white privilege is dismantling white privilege, but a lot of us choose to hide in hip hop Adam Mansbach
