who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, Proverbs 2:13 This verse is a description of the men of perverted speech from the previous verse. We are promised to be delivered from such people(men or women). So that we do not excuse them or become apologists for our favorites among such people we are reminded of what the Bible would have us know about our words: Our words indicate the condition of our hearts. So, perverted speech is an out sign of an inward wickedness. Interestingly both to be perverted and wicked both give the sense of being bent or twisted from and otherwise straight or right condition. (Think of the way wicker is twisted and bent) Each of us is bent and twisted by sin and sinfulness but when we embrace Christ we are to allow Him to straighten us out again, to reboot to factory settings as someone else said recently. We are not left to celebrate the particular shape of our twistedness. We are promised to be delivered from the ways of darkness and ever closer to Gods own path of righteousness and Wisdom.
