wishes he could have ended youth suicide this morning. For the hundreds of constructive discussion threads I have had the privilege to facilitate in the past few years in a blog-turned-forum for queer muslim youth, I received an anonymous suicide note tonight that reminds me I still have so much more work to do to empower my own community. To be honest, I wasnt sure what I was even doing trying to run that site myself, as if the blind could lead the blind. It started as a way for me to vent my frustrations with my personal identity, so I could tune it all out to pursue bioengineering in undergrad. I mean, Im really an unreliable guy who is always late, physically unable to focus, incapable of budgeting, horribly immature, and a bit too blunt with criticism...and yet that blog was a great way for me to practice empathy and learn from my own community. In any case, I believe that there is something to be said about the value of transience, so after messaging users, I deleted that blog. Perhaps something will rise from the ashes someday, but in the meantime, if anyone is interested in starting another similar space or forum, I have a number of resources that may be useful for you.
