ÆONIA, The Esoterics sixteenth CD is inspired by the poetic contemplation of the eternal. ÆONIA, coming from coming Latin word for ‘eternity,’ features two compositions by The Esoterics’ composer emeritus Donald Skirvin and the ensemble’s founding director, Eric Banks. Skirvin’s work, Stars forever, while we sleep is an unaccompanied choral symphony which sets nine poems by the American Sara Teasdale. I am among them is Banks’ setting of texts from his late friend and local broadcaster Dan-Eric Slocum. His blog, The eternity door, provided the inspiration for this work, a 20 minute stream-of-consciousness meditation on life, its struggles, and the hereafter. Both works are composed for double chorus. ÆONIA is available on iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby, as well as at theesoterics.org.
