Ο Άθως κατάφυτος, μυστικός, επιβλητικός με γκρεμούς φοβερούς, αναδύεται μεγαλοπρεπής από το Βόρειο Αιγαίο και υψώνει τη σπαθωτή κορυφή του, συχνά καλυμμένη με νέφη, δυο χιλιάδες τριάντα τρία μέτρα ψηλά στους αιθέρες.
