ဆိုရိုးမ်ားႏွင့္ စကားပုံမ်ား (Sayings and Proverbs) Sayings and Proverbs ဘာသာစကားတိုင္းတြင္ sayings ဆိုရိုးမ်ားႏွင့္ proverbs စကားပုံမ်ားရွိၾကပါသည္။ ၁။ ေအာက္ပါေဖာ္ျပပါ sayings and proverbs (1 to 10) ကို explanations ရွင္းလင္းခ်က္မ်ား (a to t) ႏွင့္ယွဥ္တြဲၾကည့္ပါ။ Their bank is worse than their bite. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. It’s no use crying over spilt milk. Too many cooks spoil the broth. A stitch in time saves nine. There’s many a slip twixt. (=between) cup and lip. All that glitters is not gold. Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched. Least said, soonest mended. Easy come, easy go. Birds of a feather flock together. To put the cart before the horse. To put the cat among the pigeons. When the cat’s away the mice will play. The pot calling the kettle black. Two heads are better than one. To make a mountain out of a molehill. Better be safe than sorry. a) People with similar tastes and interests tend to meet up. b) Remedy any slight defects early before things start to get really bad. c) Unsupervised people are likely to misbehave. d) It is best not to be too optimistic about the outcome of your projects. e) Things acquired with little effort are likely to be just as easily lost. f) You are more likely to make the correct decision having asked for a second opinion. g) To get your priorities wrong. h) They are likely to take advantage if you make the slightest concession. i) They sound more threatening than they actually are. j) There is no point complaining about past events which cannot be changed. k) To stir up trouble deliberately. l) Pay more attention to what you have than to what you might possibly have. m) Do not be fooled by outward appearances. n) To make too much of something rather trivial. o) Caution is often the best approach. p) ‘No comment’ may well be the wisest choice. q) It can be unwise to have too many people collaborating on a project. r) Things can go wrong, even at the very last moment. s) Accusing someone of a defect that you also have. t) It’s best not to pin your hopes on a single person or project. အခ်ိဳ႕ sayings and proverbs မ်ားသည္ ျမန္မာအသုံးႏွုံးမ်ားႏွင့္ တူညီေၾကာင္းသိရေပမည္။ Matchings ယွဥ္တြဲၾကည့္ရာတြင္ meaning အဓိပၸါယ္တူညီမႈကို စဥ္းစားရသကဲ့သို႕ grammar သဒါၵကိုလည္း အေျခခံ၍ စဥ္းစားရပါသည္။ ဥပမာ။ No.1 ႏွင္ i)့ သည္ grammar အရ ႏိႈင္းယွဥ္ေဖာ္ျပပုံခ်င္းတူပါသည္။ Their bark is worse than their bite. i) They sound more threatening than they are. ၂။ မိမိ၏ ႏိႈင္းယွဥ္ေျဖဆိုခ်က္မ်ားကို ႏွင့္ကိုက္ၾကည့္ပါ။ ၃။ အဓိပၸါယ္မ်ားကို ျမန္မာဘာသာျဖင့္ ျပန္လည္ယွဥ္တြဲရွင္းျပထားပါသည္။ 1. All that glitters is not gold. m) Do not be fooled by outward appearances. ဝါဝါျမင္တိုင္း ေရႊမဟုတ္ ဟု တိုက္႐ိုက္အဓိပၸါယ္ျပန္ဆိုေပၚလြင္ေစႏိုင္ပါသည္။ 8. Least said, soonest mended. p) “No comment” may well be the wisest choice. Talking will only makes things worse. အေျပာမဟုတ္၊ အလုပ္ျဖင့္သက္ေသျပသင့္ေသာသေဘာကို ေဆာင္ပါသည္။ 10. Easy come, easy go. e) Things acquired with little effort are likely to be just as easily lost. လြယ္လြယ္ရ၊ လြယ္လြယ္ကုန္ ေသာသေဘာေဆာင္သျဖင့္ ၾကိဳးစားအားထုတ္မႈမပါဘဲ ရရွိေသာေငြေၾကး၊ ပစၥည္းမ်ားကို တန္ဖိုးမထား၊ သုံးျဖဳန္းပစ္ျခင္းကိုဆိုလိုပါသည္။ 11. Birds of a feather flock together. a) People with similar tastes and interests tend to meet up. သူေတာ္ခ်င္းခ်င္း၊ သီတင္းေလြ႕ေလြ႕၊ ေပါင္းဖက္ေတြ႕ ဟူသည့္ စကားပုံႏွင့္ တူညီပါသည္။ အက်င့္စ႐ိုက္တူညီသည့္ သူမ်ား ယွဥ္တြဲ ေပါင္းသင္းတတ္ေၾကာင္းဆိုလိုပါသည္။ 12. To put the cart before the horse. g) To get your priorities wrong. ႏြားေရွ႕ ထြန္က်ဴး ဟူသည့္ ျမန္မာစကားပုံႏွင့္ တူညီပါသည္။ ဘုန္းၾကီးေရွ႕ကသြား ဟူသည့္အတိုင္း ဦးစားေပးမႈ လြဲေခ်ာ္ျခင္းကို ဆိုလိုပါသည္။ 13. To put the cat among the pigeons. k) To stir up trouble deliberately. ပုစြန္စိပ္ေခါင္း၊ မစင္စု သကဲ့သို႕ ျပႆနာေပါင္းစုံ စုပုံေနျခင္းကို ဆိုလိုပါသည္။ 14. When the cat’s away the mice will play. c) Unsupervised people are likely to misbehave. ေၾကာင္မရွိ၊ ႂကြက္ထ ဆိုသကဲ့သို႕ အထိန္းအေၾကာင္းမဲ့က စည္းလြတ္၊ ဝါးလြတ္ျဖစ္တတ္ေၾကာင္းကို ဆိုလိုပါသည္။ 15. The pot calling the kettle black. s) Accusing someone of a defect that you also have / The accuser having the same fault as the accused. သူခိုးေသေဖာ္ညိႇ ဆိုေသာ စကားကဲ့သို႕ ျပစ္မႈတစ္ခု မိမိက်ဴးလြန္ထားသည္ကို အျခားတပါးေသာသူအား ထိုအျပစ္အတြက္ စြပ္စြဲေျပာဆိုျခင္းမ်ိဳးျဖစ္ပါသည္။ 16. Two heads are better than one. f) You are more likely to make the correct decision having asked for a second opinion. ဆိုးတိုင္ပင္၊ ေကာင္းတိုင္ပင္ ဆိုသကဲ့သို႕ တစ္ဦးထဲေတြးေတာ ဆုံးျဖတ္ျခင္းထက္ အျခားတပါးေသာသူထံမွ အၾကံဥာဏ္ေတာင္းခံျခင္းက ပို၍ ေကာင္းမြန္ မွန္ကန္ႏိုင္သည္ ဟုဆိုလိုပါသည္။ 17. To make a mountain out of a molehill. n) To make too much of something trivial. ေသးေသာ အမႈကို မပေပ်ာက္ေစတဲ့ ပုံၾကီးခ်ဲ႕ထြင္ေျပာဆိုမႈကို ဆိုလိုပါသည္။ 18. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. t) It’s best not to pin your hopes on a single person or project/ not to risk everything one has in a single venture. Eg. by investing all one’s money in one business. စြန္႕စား၍ မိမိ၏ စီးပြါးဥစၥာမ်ားကို လုပ္ငန္းတစ္ခုတည္းတြင္ စုပုံ၍ မရင္းႏွီးမျမွပ္ႏံွသင့္ေၾကာင္း ျမန္မာ့ဆိုရိုးတြင္ တစ္ရြာ တစ္က်ည္ေဆာက္ ဆိုသကဲ့သို႕ စီးပြါးကို ပ်ံ႕ႏွံ႕ျမွပ္ႏံွသည့္ သေဘာမ်ိဳးျဖစ္ပါသည္။ 19. Give them an inch, they’ll take a mile. h) They are likely to take advantage if you make the slightest concession. အခြင့္အေရး နည္းနည္းေပးလွ်င္ မ်ားမ်ားယူတတ္ျခင္း သဒါၵလြန္း၊ ဆြမ္းေတာ္ေတာ္ရပ္ ဆိုသကဲ့သို႕ ေစတနာကို ေစာ္ကားျခင္းမ်ိဳးျဖစ္ပါသည္။ 20.
