☆ ♥╚►★ ▲► °˚◦ღ• aience figure of a kneeling king being protected by the vulture of the goddess Nekhbet. Third Intermediate Period. Provenance unknown. Now in Rijksmuseum van Oudedhen, Leiden. Nekhbet (Nekhebet, Nechbet) was the patron of Upper Egyptappearing as one of the Two ladies in the Nebty name of the pharaoh (with her counterpart Wadjet). She was often called Hedjet (White Crown) in reference to the crown of Upper Egypt and regularly appears as a heraldic device representing Upper Egypt. She was also a protector of royal children and, in later periods, of all young children and expectant mothers.----------THIS VULTURE (nekhbet) symbol of maternal protection for the king is a very very protective vulture in overlooking her children to the point that she choses her partner following to the degree of speed he can raise her young vultures in the air when they start to learn to fly and throw by very high peaks. Im not an expert in ancient Egyptian language but I personally believe that the old Egyptian word nekhbet is the origin of the Arabic word Nekheb refering to election or choice....... Nekhbet means She-of-Nekheb . Nekheb was the ancient Upper Egyptian city (modern day El-Kab) seat of the cult of this goddess. Opposite to Nekheb, on the west bank of the Nile, there was Nekhen (greek : Hierakonpolis) ancient site of cult of Horus, since Predynastic times. Isis enthroned nursing Horus: the Throne of Isis sits in the embrace of a vulture representing the Goddess Nekhbet, spreading Her wings around Isis and Horus as a sign of Protection; bronze and alabaster statuette from the Necropolis of Memphis, ca. 712-525 bc; now in the Brooklyn Museum Unusual depiction of Nekhbet with human face. Provenance unknown, but most probably from the Eastern Delta. Now in the Staatliches Museum Aegyptischer Kunst, Munich. Necho was a prince from Sais , who lived during the occupation of the Nubian kings of the XXV Dynasty. He nominated himself pharaoh and led a war to free Egypt from the nubian occupants. He was killed in battle, in his 8th year of rule, by the king Tanutamun, in 664 BC. His son, Psamtek defeated Tanutamun and re-unified Egypt, founding the XXVI Dynasty. Objects in the name of Nekau are rare. Inscription on this plaque says The son of Re : Nekau, given life eternally. ◆ ◆ ◆ ◆ ◆ Two birds in the rushes. Provenance unknown (unspecificated on the museum label). Staatliches Museum Aegyptischer Kunst, Munich. I think, from the size, and shape of the upper side , that this was a door socket ◆ ◆ ◆ ◆ ◆ Detail of an unfinished funeral scene in the tomb of Nu and Nakhtmin (TT291) at Deir El Medina. XIX Dynasty. The mummy stands upright in front of the tomb chapel. A man, acting as a priest, purifies a pile of food offerings and a ka bunch of flowers, with water and a bowl of burning incense. In the New Kingdom tombs at Thebes it was usually the eldest son of the deceased who performed the funerary rituals ; when this wasnt done by a sem-priest (the one dressed with leopard skin). If you look closely, under the scene outlined in white you can see an earlier scene, outlined in red, where a man was performing the opening of the mouth ritual before the mummy. The scene have been changed and the figure of the man replaced with the pile of offerings. The inscription over the scene is not related, and contains the end of a dedication to Osiris ...the Great God, Lord of Eternity. Made by the praised of his lord in the Great Place (the royal tomb) : Minhotep. His son : Nakhtmin.
