明けましておめでとう。Here are two New Year pics from friends in Japan that I thought I had already shared. It turns out, however, due to privacy settings on their end, only their friends can see them. The first is of homemade 御節料理 (osechryouri) typically eaten on the first three days of the New Year. (Thats right, Japanese dont return to work until Jan 4.) The second is of a tunnel of 鳥居 (torii; Shinto gateways) at Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社) outside of Kyoto. (Some former students will recognize these.) Japanese visit (Buddhist) temples on New Years Eve to ring gigantic bells 108 times, once for each vice, and then visit (Shinto) shrines at the beginning of the New Year. This first shrine visit is called 初詣で (hatsumoude). I wish all could see the original shares and additional wonderful pics. (I will give names/credits for both when I get permission. This all makes me wonder how many other shares of mine have in fact been invisible to my public! Anybody else with this problem?)
