.ﺮﻴﻔﺳ With more than 450 Yemeni, foreign, and American officials, diplomats, and friends, and Guest of Honor Hisham al Sharaf, Minister of Higher Education, the Embassy celebrated the United States’ Independence Day yesterday. In his remarks, Ambassador Gerald Feierstein welcomed invitees, telling them, “We see vigorous debates taking place here today... by Yemenis who ask the same questions about the future of this country: Can it survive? Will it survive? Do the people have the will to overcome these challenges? The occasion was also an official farewell to the Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission, Elizabeth Richard, who addressed the crowd with moving observations on her tenure in Yemen.
