--The final assessments are in for three improvement projects in the city of Little Falls — First Street Northwest, Third Street Northeast and Ninth Street and Call Place Southeast. The total cost for the three projects came to $1.007 million, about $57,000 less than the engineer’s estimate for the bid opening in June. Property owners affected by the projects were assessed 24 percent of the project cost $238,074.43, with the city picking up 76 percent or $768,935.57. The assessments ranged from the lowest at $2,355.78 for a portion of property owned by the city to a high of $54,190.85, for property owned by Burlington Northern Inc., with the majority ranging in the $4,000 – $6,000 range. These amounts will be assessed to the property owners’ property taxes at a 5 percent interest rate spread over 15 years. Any property owner who paid the assessment in full before Oct. 31st, would pay no interest. Those with questions about the assessments may call City Hall at (320) 616-5500.
