1) Everybody should demand the local Mosques molvi to condemn Taliban in juma prayer, those molvis who refuse to do it should be dragged on the roads for everyone to see. 2) Recite Kalima or I will shoot you. I think these two statements have only one difference, that is of a gun. You put a gun in formers hand, and you get the similar statement. The former is from acclaimed Desi Liberal Mr. Hassan Nisar, and the latter from a terrorist who took part in #PeshawarMassacre. What is problematic here is that even the liberals (whose very name liberal suggests that he should be campaigning for greater personal freedoms) are suggesting ways to smother freedom of opinion. I personally hold TTP and other militant groups responsible for Peshawar tragedy; but I defend the freedom of opinion of those who think that Taliban is an umbrella term for over 50 groups and TTP is just one of them. And it doesnt mean that the actions of TTP should be held against the others who deny involvement in such activities. I have no evidence either for or against this--hence I consider myself bound to not lynch people holding this opinion on mere whims floating around in the air. All of this that is now happening is strongly suggestive of a pattern, which I hope doesnt get repeated this time around. The pattern proceeds like this: stage a horrific incident that incites a national reaction, put 2-number sellout analysts and political pundits to assign blame on a certain group, mold national opinion so that masses hate anything that has even remote resemblance to the scapegoat group, enact relevant legislation by mass approval to assume absolute autocratic powers (people will give their own freedom happily in your hands if you scare them and incite them enough), stage quick and effective action against that group using your new powers, enjoy powers till people ask for freedom, repeat and rule indefinitely. I actually began to hope that this national tragedy will galvanize us to seek real solutions to our problems. But the same thing is happening again. People are demanding quick fix to the issue--how can there be a quick fix to a problem that took years to evolve to its present magnitude? Kill them Molvis, burn them in public etc etc are the demands. Good luck with it. If you think that the guy leading prayers and giving Azaan in your mosque has so much authority that his words will defeat Terrorism, then sure go ahead. A man who you can drag on the roads if he doesnt say as you demand, it isnt difficult to imagine how much authority he would be having! As we are the most impotent of nations who cannot go after the real targets, we always satisfy ourselves by taking it all out on the ones who cant resist or defy us. Just as those Terrorists couldnt do anything about Americans/NATO, they came after the ones on whom they could take it all out--that is, the children. You go do the same. And I hope terrorism will end by year 3015 by taking your anger out on random Molvis. Ban the madressahs (so that the pupils there go join ranks of terrorists to get their daily bread and butter), ban all collective religious activity (so that terrorists can appear justified in their actions and their us versus them narrative could be strengthened), label every man with a beard a terrorist so that some of them actually become terrorists in reaction.
