100 Years Ago was the famous Christmas Truce of 1914. Allied and Central powers along the western front held an unofficial ceasefire during the Christmas holidays. Many coming out of their trenches into No Mans Land to meet and celebrate the holidays with gift exchanges, stories, carols, and of course some football. By 1916 stricter rules were set in place for fraternization, and the Christmas ceasefires ceased to exist on the western front. That and bitter fighting and grudges set in after the Somme played out and Chemical Warfare entered the War.
