$115 million cut from science yet School Chaplains receive a cool - TopicsExpress

$115 million cut from science yet School Chaplains receive a cool $250 million… THIS is why there is a backlash against this budget. For the purposes of argument let us assume that the apocalyptic Liberal party fiscal forecasts are 100% correct and that Labor has left us in the worst possible financial position imaginable. Got that? Good. Now where does that leave us? Up shit creek obviously, spending must be curtailed, its time to tighten the belts and grin and bear it to arrive at the great surplus at the end of the rainbow. Still with me? Ok. Now the great injustice comes in to play. And this is the point where I cannot, in any good conscience, swallow any more of their belt tightening rhetoric. For this is where the nasty conservative ideology rears its ugly head. An ideology that clearly puts big business ahead of the small person. But Labor left this mess and theres no other way to fix it I hear time and time again... Mess …. Sure, ok, lets declare it a mess, but no other way? BULLSHIT. How can anyone blindly tow this line? How can anyone stand by and watch Universal healthcare and equality based tertiary education get destroyed whilst the rich continue to get their cheap diesel and unbridled property tax breaks. Why are we striving for some kind of American Model? Hell it hasnt worked there has it? How can a SECULAR nation justify slashing science funding yet happily prop up religious advocates? How can Tony Abbott decry the Gonski education model as unaffordable yet do nothing to stop the billions of dollars of lost potential revenue caused by our ludicrous negative gearing loopholes… And on and on. Healthy, educated, tolerant people are THE key to a prosperous and sustainable future for the human race. At somewhere around 10 billion people, we will face a state of overcapacity on this planet. New and innovative ways of energy production, farming, finite resource management and environmental management will be needed in order to maintain a workable balance. Instead we are being fed a model that seeks to undermine all this. The head in the sand approach will not do. THERE ARE OPTIONS. Options beyond screwing the poor. We just need somebody at the helm to actually make real hard decisions. Not these feeble, cynical hard decisions being fed to us by Tony and the Murdoch brigade. Who that may be? That I dont know. And if youre sick of my political ranting then tough. Unfriend me now because theres plenty more where this came from. We as Australians are at a critical juncture and a couple of arrogant private school bullies are playing us for fools, all in the name of the almighty dollar.
