12/03 (07 hours) PTSD: Responding to Returning Veterans NOTE: This class is sponsored by the East Texas Council of Governments. Officers from ETCOG or ATCOG will have their tuition paid by their respective COG. All other officers will need to pay $10 per officer. TCOLE #3846 Kilgore @ ETPA $10 (free to ETCOG and ATCOG officers) Instructor: Silouan Green, PATC No officer hurt/injured! No Veteran hurt/injured! This one day training module is taught by a veteran who has experienced PTSD. Reports from the National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) show that 60% of men and 50% of women will experience at least one traumatic event. Reports have varied from 40% to 80% of our returning military veterans face some level of PTSD. Regardless of what percentage is correct there is no question our veterans returning home are facing one of the most devastating economic job conditions, no social acceptance, not much assistance available, and family relationship problems. In addition, Law Enforcement themselves are vulnerable to the effects of PTSD on officers who have encountered life threatening situations and conditions. Building a PTSD resilient force is the most important step to understanding and better dealing with veterans who have PTSD. The purpose and objectives of this one (1) day training module will be to: Help you understand the development and recognize the signs and symptoms of PTSD Relate to the veteran via your own experience Better to respond to calls for assistance involving PTSD subjects Begin building a PTSD resilient Law Enforcement agency
