Details: Early Warning Network: ewn.au QLD Severe Weather Warning: Heavy Rain & Damaging Winds for DAMAGING WINDS, HEAVY RAINFALL and ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES For people in parts of the Northern Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West and Capricornia Forecast Districts. Issued at 3:42 pm Thursday, 30 January 2014. Synoptic Situation: At 3pm EST, Tropical Cyclone Dylan, category 1, was situated in the western Coral Sea, approximately 235 kilometres northeast of Townsville, and moving southwest at around 14 kilometres per hour. Tropical cyclone Dylan is expected to move in a general southwesterly direction and gradually intensify before crossing the Burdekin coast southeast of Townsville in the early hours of Friday morning. After crossing the coast, the system will transition to a vigorous tropical low and continue moving further inland during Friday, with damaging winds and heavy rainfall likely on its southern side. Water levels on the high tide are likely to exceed the highest tide of the year about coastal areas between Cooktown and Cardwell, and also between St Lawrence and Gladstone over the next couple of days. Coastal communities between Cardwell and St Lawrence will also experience abnormally high tides, heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts and a separate TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING has been issued for these areas. Refer to this product for further information on Tropical Cyclone Dylan. Damaging winds, with peak gusts of about 100km/h are also expected about coastal and elevated parts of the Capricornia district, spreading inland to the northern Central Highlands and eastern parts of the Central West districts during Friday, along with heavy rainfall with the potential to lead to flash flooding. Locations which may be affected include Emerald, Rockhampton, Clermont, Blackwater, Barcaldine, Yeppoon, Moranbah, Springsure and Marlborough. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
