1979 I was hired as kid by Mr. Russo in the then new Woburn store.. At 17, only having one job as a pot washer before I was in awe.. I had a job that required me to wear a tie.. I hit the big time : P... My first day I stood at the end of a register, excited to bag or double bag, along side some men and woman that where less fortunate than me with mental and physical handicaps (back then and still today the challenged where giving the opportunity to work, back then before it was PC to do so). Mr Russo pulled me off the line and took me up to his office (an open room above the curtesy booth overlooking the store). He gave me a 15 minute lesson on how to tie a tie (mine was an uneven bunched up knot under my apron). He then gave me a lesson that I never got in school or future college courses. The customer is always first at all times. You always look your best because you represent our company. Your integrity is what people judge you by, it is hard earned and easily lost... In 1981 I left MB as an Isle Captain , soups and cereal s trained and motivated by, then Assistant Manager Al Davis. I took with me work ethics, pride and self confidence that I was never taught at any college course... MB is not just a supermarket chain! No surrender! Boycott until ATD is back!
