******1st Team Match Report****** This game was kindly sponsored by Wrights Accident Repair Centres DAWFL Premier Division 13/09/14 @ Dairy Hall Playing Fields Comber Star 6 v 1 Willowfield Parish This game gave us a chance to record a 3rd straight victory in a row, against a Willowfield side that had yet to get their season started. Star showed their intent right from the KO and on 4mins the first goal came from an unlikely source, after a Star attack the ball was scrambled clear by the Willowfield defence, it fell right into the path of the Ginger bearded Connolly and the midfield guvnor made no mistake as he slotted past the keeper. Not a bad finish from a player not renowned for his goal scoring exploits!!! This was exactly the start Star were after and really could and shouldve added to the scoreline-Willowfield were struggling to cope with the Star attacks-our finishing however proved to be the main problem. Shaw, S.Moore, Lawton all had great chances but it wasnt to be. With the Star midfield overplaying the ball and loosing possession too easy, Willowfield got the belief they could get back in the game, and on 21mins this proved to be the case, their No.9 who caused our defence problems all afternoon, was put clear and slotted the ball past the outrushing Hopkins. The management were disappointed with this conceded goal-and the players started to get their act together, they tried to stretch Willowfield, but the visitors were getting plenty of joy with the high line they were playing and caught S.Moore and Shaw offside on more than one occasion. On 27mins though Star regained the lead-a great ball over the Willowfield defence by Graham-had played David Moore into the danger area, with the offside trap beaten he ran onto the ball, took it into the box, got his composure and placed the shot past the keeper. The chances continued to come and go for Star and it wasnt until 37mins that the 3rd goal was scored. From a classy well delivered Lawton corner, McFrederick headed the ball goalwards, just as it looked like a Willowfield defender was going to clear the danger-our pre-season goal machine Shaw nodded his first competitive goal of the 2014/15 campaign into the net. No more than the Big Lad deserves as his performances have had everything but goals!!! Halftime --- Star 3 v 1 Willowfield The 2nd half really shouldve been about us stamping our authority on the game getting that killer goal and putting the chances away that we were creating. This was not the case however, and despite what was said at the interval, we went out flat, sluggish and just werent at the races for the first 30mins of the 2nd half. Willowfield on the other hand came out all guns blazing and showed the fight they will need if they are to haul themselves up the league. Only for Star keeper Michael Hopkins being in such good form, we couldve found ourselves involved in a totally different scoreline With the management looking to freshen things up, Lawton made way for the enigma that is Josh Oliver, just as he did in the previous weeks game he came on with the energy and enthusiasm that the opposition dread to see. Gary Monaghan also made his first competitive appearance for the 1st team and didnt disappointed-he caused the Willowfield defence more than a few problems, he replaced goalscorer Shaw. Oliver was to be rewarded for his work rate and anticipation this week, on 77mins Star were on the attack the ball was played out to S.Moore on the left, he quickly beat his marker and made his way into the box and played a tempting ball right across the 6yard box to give Oliver a simple tap in. He will tell you himself--this shouldve been Olivers 2nd league goal for the 1st team after last week glaring miss!! But thankfully this week he made no mistake. I say that, as this was the goal that calmed down the management, supporters and more importantly the players, Willowfield to their credit didnt stop or give up and pushed us hard in the 2nd half. This 4th goal deflated Willowfield but also started a mini goal rush for Star. On 83mins and after another Star attack the ball broke to the edge of the box, Steven Moore, who by his own standards was having a quiet day, scored in my opinion, the goal of the game. An awkward looking ball came at Stevie with pace, but the striker readjusted and sent a cracking accurate powered volley past the visiting keeper. He wasnt done there and 5mins later had added to his and Stars tally and ended what was a very uncomfortable 2nd half. This was our third victory in a row, and Ill take any victory that comes our way- however we continue to make life difficult for ourselves, something that will catch up on us lads!!! I take my hat off to Willowfield manys a team wouldve gave up-I wish them all the best for the rest of the season, Back to us though-next week will let us all see exactly where we are-next week we face Corrymeela who are always a tough task whenever you play them - add to this the fact both teams will be missing a few players we will need to be at our very best--in saying all that, if the attitude, commitment, hardwork, and belief continues well be ok. Yesterdays game was covered by Dennis Nash and will be feature match in this weeks Chronicle-so get it bought- and read a proper report!!! Well Done Lads!!! :) I would just like to thank all those that came down to support the lads, its very much appreciated, Also a massive Thank You to yesterdays game sponsors Wrights Accident Repair Centres. Keep Believing Lads!!!!! #CSFC Hardcore Peter
