2014.10.25: Mile 2170.6 - Golden Road in Millinocket, ME. I SLIPPED ON A SLICK TREE ROOT JUST AFTER DAYBREAK. Heard Crunching/ Grinding/ Gnashing in my LEFT ANKLE. Feared that the dreaded GAME-OVER sign was flashing above my head. With tears welling up in my eyes, I ever so slowly began to stand up- of course my ankle hurt to stand on it. How could it not w/ all those noises? However, I was elated to find that it could bear weight. I didnt dare take my boot off once I realized that, for fear that Id be stuck ~25 miles out in the 100 Mile Wilderness w/ no reception to call for help. So, I gingerly began hiking again- all the while going over #s, in my mind, of how my mileage would change due to my slower pace. I had been enjoying watching the # of days dwindle, and now I would have to add one back on. I fought back tears on this gloomy beginning to my day. Looking for a silver lining, I decided to focus on the beauty of this finally sunny day. Noteables: Rainbow Stream Lean-to. Rainbow Lake. First clear view to Katahdin from Rainbow Lake Dam. Sun on trail. Beautiful Turkey Tail fungus. More wet trails. Birches & Mosses. Artifacts @ a campsite. Roots & rocks. Patterns in foam. Pale moss on Rainbow ledges. Ledge top view to Katahdin. Shadow hiker. Roots & moss. Stairs off ledges. Moose crossed trail in front of me near Hurd Brook. Met Marty @ Hurd Brook ford. After my morning- it was so nice to see a familiar face! A true site for sore eyes. Lean-to log entries. Marty crossing bogs. North end of the 100 Mile Wilderness. Standing on Abol Bridge (Best view of Katahdin on trail)! {15.5 Total Miles}
