2015: JONATHAN’S AMBITION PUSHING NIGERIA INTO ANARCHY, NORTHERN ELDERS. President Goodluck Jonathan’s moves to continue to Nigeria beyond 2015 is descending the country into anarchy and lawlessness, the coalition of pressure groups in the North comprising Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Northern Elders Forum (NEF) and four others said yesterday in Kaduna. Addressing newsmen alongside representatives of other groups in the North in Kaduna the spokesperson of NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi said the alarming desperation of politicians to manoeuvre themselves in vantage positions for the electoral contests of 2015 is a major threat to the elections themselves, and, ultimately to the democratic process. The coalition which also includes Northern Union (NU), Arewa Reawakening Forum (ARF) Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP) and Code Group (CG) said the desperation of President Jonathan won’t stop power from returning to the North come 2015 as they will use all legal means to achieve Northern presidency. “The clumsy and embarrassing conduct and fallout of the election in the Governors’ Forum, the engineered crisis in the ruling party, the role of the spouse of the President in affairs of state and the shameful and disturbing abuse of power and rule of law in Rivers State, are signs that Nigeria is descending into anarchy and lawlessness rarely seen in our history,” he said. The group also noted that the crisis in Rivers State was a sad reminder of western Nigeria crisis of 1963 and that it was symptomatic of the politics of intolerance which has remained the hallmark of our political experience since 1999. The Northern elders called on President Goodluck Jonathan to order an immediate cessation of hostilities in Rivers state and that he should stop using the Nigeria police to settle his political disputes. On the onslaught against Boko Haram, he said, “We welcome the marked decline in widespread hostilities between the Jamaatu Ahlil Sunnah Liddawati Wal Jihad and security agencies, but we condemn in strongest terms, the targeting of school children by yet-to- be identified murderers in Yobe state. -CULLED FROM DAILY TRUST
